I recently came across the "Bible Promise Book" from Barbour publishing. This tome contains all of God's promises to man outlined in the Bible. I have begun to read a promise a day and thought it would be nice to share these promises and perhaps expound on them a bit.
Psalms 30:5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
It is sobering to think about the anger of the Lord and the terrifying results of that anger. Sodom and Gomorrah we're cities that the anger of the Lord was visited upon. When God is stirred to anger the world trembles. In Luke the words of the Lord Jesus Christ are recorded intoning the cry of those that are in the path of His righteous anger during the last days "Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us."Lk 23:30 But in truth there is no escaping the Lord's judgement.
Like any parent God is hurt and angered at the disobedience and unrighteous acts of those He cares for but this verse reminds us that, like a father, that anger passes in a moment. He loves us more than our faults and short comings and favors us with life rather than death which is what we deserve for our wickedness. This verse is a two fold promise, for it also reminds us that trials are but a moment and joy comes to those who are his favored. The Lord is on our side and if the Lord be for us who can be against us?
God Bless,
