Psalms 76

I felt a desire to move away from Matthew 24 today just because I felt a light, joyful Spirit move over me this morning. I smile when I think about my Jesus and all He's done for me. But what good is the joy in me if I don't get to share it! I want everyone to know the joy and freedom associated with deliverance!

I like to use a scriptural reference for my blog titles. A sort of theme from the word that is a thread to weave my thoughts together. This morning I had no instant scripture or verse at hand to relate to how i was feeling but God works in mysterious ways and it just so happens that in daily devotions I am currently working through Psalms. What better book of the Bible to find uplifting and victorious chapters and songs than in the writings of the Psalmist.

So reading Psalms 76 brought joy to my heart . It is the song of a battle weary man who has found rest in the Lord. It was the song and sentiment of my heart. The battle has been long and weary but in the places where God dwells "there brake he the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah." (vs. 3) He has delivered me from the time of war, my battle weary soul has found rest this morning, Praise God!

"The stouthearted [courageous and determined] are spoiled" Hey, God likes to spoil His people. He gives rest to the weary, strength to the weak and peace to the troubled! What other King can step into the midst of a war and give his men peace and strength and rest from the battle?

In verse 8 God's voice calms the earth to be still. This brought even more joy when I thought of Jesus standing in the bow of the boat and with His voice he caused the storm to be still. That's why the disciples wondered at him and were amazed because they knew David's song that the voice of God is the voice that calms the earth! Oh what a great God our Deliverer is! He calms not only the battle but the world around us when we call out to Him.

Reflecting on this beautiful Thursday morning in the month of September I can't help but praise my Lord and Saviour who gives me rest in the midst of the battle, peace in the midst of the storm. My God who spoils me when I don't deserve it and I can't help but echo back to the psalmist "Bring presents unto him that ought to be feared." (vs. 11) I lay it all down Lord again at your feet.
